Questions and answers

Who is delivering the project?

Hi, we’re Mike (he/him) and Nick (she/her). We’re filmmakers, digital media practitioners, and educators.

We’ve been shielding since the beginning of the pandemic and, through the magic of Zoom, we’ve been working remotely to deliver training and mentoring to artists, arts and cultural organisations, museums, and charities.

For this project we’re excited to be working in partnership with Disabled-led visual arts charity DASH, and visual artist and neurodiversity in arts consultant Gaia Redgrave.

How are you going to select people to take part?

We’ll randomly select participants from eligible applications, aiming to have a mix of D/deaf, Disabled, and Neurodivergent artists.

I’m a D/deaf / Disabled / Neurodivergent artist but I’m not sure what my access requirements will be for this project, what should I do?

We’re happy to have a chat before you apply if there are things you’re not sure about. Drop us an email before Friday 22nd April so we can arrange a chat before the application deadline.

I’ve never made a video on my smart phone or tablet, or I’ve only used it for personal stuff, can I apply?

Absolutely. The project is for people who have little or no experience of using their mobile device to create pieces about their artistic practice.

I’m an artist and would really benefit from building my digital media skills but I don’t identify as D/deaf, Disabled, or Neurodivergent can I apply?

We know things are hard for lots of artists at the moment but we’re afraid not. Drop us an email or follow us on Twitter if you’d like to keep in touch about other opportunities.

I’m not based in England can I apply?

Sorry, this project is for artists based in England.

I don’t have a smart phone or tablet, can I apply?

Not for this project, sorry. As we only have a few places for the project we want to offer them to people who can put their new skills and confidence to use straight away.

If you don’t have the equipment or connectivity, please email us. We’d like to be able to share this feedback with the Arts Council for possible future projects.

I won’t have time to work on a short piece during the project, can I still apply?

We want people to make the most of the workshops and mentoring, so we’re asking them to tell us about something they’d like to work on as part of the project. You don’t need to have a detailed plan, and you might develop your idea during the project, but you’ll need to have some time to work on it.

I can only make some of the dates, can I still apply?

Sorry, no. We can only offer places to people who are available for all of the sessions.

I’ve made a few video or audio pieces with my mobile device. I’m pretty confident with camera, sound, and editing techniques. I want to take my skills to the next level, can I apply?

Sorry. This project is for people who have little or no filming, sound recording, and editing experience. Drop us an email or follow us on Twitter if you’d like to keep in touch about other opportunities.

I have another question, how do I get in touch?
