About the project
This pilot project will offer free, remote, accessible, digital media training and mentoring for a small group of D/deaf, Disabled, and/or Neurodivergent artists (working in any art form), who are based in England.
The project aims to help artists develop their skills and confidence to create high-quality short video or audio pieces to document or showcase their artistic practice, using their smart phone or tablet and simple editing apps.
This opportunity is aimed at people with little or no experience of creating short video or audio pieces using their mobile device. The project will be delivered via Zoom.
What will be involved?
An initial meeting will be confirmed with each selected artist to talk about:
what the project can offer;
what the artist would like to learn;
access requirements for the project
Your initial individual meeting will be one of:
- Tuesday 17th May pm
- Friday 20th May am
- Tuesday 24th May pm

To take part you will need —

- a stable internet connection
- a device to join the Zoom sessions on
- a smart phone or tablet for capturing video and/or audio and editing
- an idea for a short video or audio piece about your artistic practice to work on during the project*
*For example, this could be for an application for funding, to put on your website or social media, or to document a project.
The project has funding to support participants’ access requirements. We’ll ask about this as part of the application.
Deadlines and decisions
- Please submit your full application by 10pm Friday 29th April
Late applications won’t be considered
- We plan to make decisions by the end of Tuesday 10th May
We appreciate that making applications takes unpaid time and energy. This is a pilot project with capacity for up to six artists. We expect to have more eligible applications than places, and we plan to select participants randomly from the eligible applications we receive.
We hope to build on this project to develop more opportunities in the longer term, and will share the number of applications with Arts Council England and other potential funders to help demonstrate the interest and demand for this type of training for artists.
If you aren’t eligible, please let us know what workshops or training would help you, and if you’d like us to stay in touch about future opportunities — workshops [at] PieceOfStringMedia.co.uk
